What I Eat in a Day

Around 5 months ago, I started logging my food on My Fitness Pal to try to track/increase my protein intake. This had the gradual side effect of making me much more conscious about what I eat on a daily basis. I found that by increasing my protein intake, I felt fuller and didn't snack as much. I didn't have as many cravings for bread and sweets as I used to.

Eating salad for lunch did not happen overnight but rather over the course of several weeks after I started tracking my food. This is a drastic change for me as I re-watched some of my older vlogs (from Dec/14) and could not believe the amount of junk food I was eating on a daily basis.

I love watching these types of videos so I thought I would show what I eat on a typical work day (when I don't go out for any meals). I've included caloric information in case it is helpful. This is the fewest number of calories I will eat on any given day. I eat much more on the weekend (as shown in my vlogs).

Note that I eat small portions throughout the day but I always have a big dinner. I love food and I think about it all the time so eating a big meal in the morning and small portions in the evening does not really work for me because I don't do well when I restrict myself in the evening. I know this goes against typical meal advice but I am just doing what works for me.

6am to 9am
- 1 banana
- 2 big strawberries (or 3-4 smaller ones)
- 0.5 cup blueberries
- 100g activia yogurt
- 1 tbsp homemade granola
- 1 tbsp hemp seeds
approx. 350 calories

9am to 11am
- 16oz black tea with 2 packets of raw sugar and 1 Coffee-Mate pod
approx. 50 calories

11am to 2pm
- 1.5 cups arugula
- 1.5 cups baby spinach
- 2 hard boiled eggs (I normally have 1)
- 1oz chicken (I normally have 2-3oz)
- 1 tbsp hemp seeds
- 0.25 cup feta cheese
- 43ml Renee's tuscan vinaigrette dressing
approx. 400 calories

2pm to 5pm
I normally have a small snack like a yogurt and hemp seeds but I ran out of time at work today so I skipped it.

5pm to 8pm
- 100g steamed pork patty with salted fish
- 1.5 cups of steamed rice
- 1 cup of kernel corn
approx. 750 calories

8pm to 11pm
- 40g peanut M&Ms
- herbal tea with 1.5 tsp honey
approx. 250 calories

For more details on what I eat when I go out to restaurants, I show a lot of my meals out in my vlogs (basically it's whatever I feel like eating, on an unrestricted basis).

Travel Tuesday . Champagne Region . September 2013

It has been nearly 2 years since our last trip to France so I figured I would catch up on blogging my vacation photos while also reinstating my Travel Tuesday posts. My hubby and I made a return trip to France for a couple of weeks in the fall of 2013, but this time with one of our good friends! Our intention was to pick grapes in the Champagne region during harvest season, but the weather did not cooperate that year and harvest season came later than normal so we missed it by a hair. No matter, we still had a fantastic time! Some of you may have watched my France vlog but I also wanted to post some of my favourite photos from our trip. I'll be sharing photos from all our cameras so I will note my friend's photos with an F, my hubby's photos with an H, and my photos with an M. This post features photos from our first three days in France. This was my second time in the Champagne region and I loved it just as much as first time... I am crossing my fingers and toes that I will find myself there again in the near future.

Planner Walk Through

Here is the current state of my planner. I'm not 100% happy with it but thought I would share how I'm currently using it. I will do an updated video likely sometime towards the end of 2015 or in early 2016. For additional information (including links to the customizable planner pages), please click through to my YouTube page! :)

August 2015 Julep Box

It has been so long since I've done an unboxing... my last Julep box was in May 2014! I recently received my Julep birthday points, which put me over the 2,000 point threshold required for a free box. I waited until there was something that caught my eye and that happened with the August offering. I chose the Bombshell box. The Skip the Brush Creme to Powder Blush Stick is in Moonlit Sand. It's actually 0.21 oz so still much smaller than the NARS Multiple at 0.5 oz!

Project 333 for the Office

Some of you know may know that I've been wanting to try Project 333 for a long time, but I've been overwhelmed by how much I still have in my wardrobe despite having gone through many rounds of decluttering. I love variety and looking different all the time so it makes me feel a little anxious when I think about wearing the same 33 pieces for 3 months. Instead, I took a look at my lifestyle and I realized I already dress using a capsule wardrobe to a certain extent when I go to work. I have a conservative desk job so I find I am constantly repeating outfits and dressing with a similar "uniform" every day:

In the spring, summer, and fall months, you will typically find me in a:
- Pencil skirt with a top (tucked in)
- A-line skirt with a top (tucked in)
- Sheath dress
- A-line dress

In the winter, I almost always wear:
- Pants with a top (not tucked in)

Since I already have an informal capsule wardrobe for work, I decided to try Project 333 for the office in May, June, and July of this year. In this video, I talk a little bit about the project and also show my 33 pieces:

And here is how I did!

I enjoyed my first capsule wardrobe so much, I decided to do another for August, September, and October. I replaced one item (light grey cardigan) with something very similar, kept approximately half the pieces from the first round, rotated in a number pieces currently in my wardrobe, and purchased a few items to fill a few "gaps" in my office wardrobe. Here are the pieces I chose for my summer/fall office capsule:

So far, I am really enjoying my current office capsule! One day, I may decide to branch out and try Project 333 for my non-work wardrobe, but for now, I think I will continue to enjoy the variety.

Awkward Together

6 years ago today, I married the sweetest boy in the world. We had our ceremony, reception, and dinner at Jump. It was a rather low key and intimate affair with fewer than 100 guests and it was one of the best days of my life. One of our favourite annual traditions is our anniversary dinner at the restaurant where we said our vows. It has gone through a few changes since we were wed there 6 years ago but it still holds a special place in our hearts. It was closed for a private reception on August 8 this year (for another a wedding perhaps?) so we had our celebratory dinner last week. The service was top notch and all the food we ordered was delicious. My hubby took some great photos of our food so I've used them for this blog post. :)

Here are some awkward OOTD photos. Hubs told me to stop moving. I told him I was changing poses. At least my eyes are open in these ones.

Then I set up the timer so we could be awkward together.

Not much has changed in 6 years. We still love to celebrate pretty much anything with a delicious meal and I still laugh way too loudly.

Decluttering My Eye Makeup Collection - Palettes

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! Here is part 4 of my eye makeup declutter. Palettes are a very difficult category for me but I managed to let go of a few. I'm quite pleased with my eye makeup collection now... it's still a little large but I'm happy I made some progress in this round of my declutter. :)
