February 2013 Topbox (Benefit Privé Box) - Unboxing and Review

Another Topbox review today! This is a long overdue unboxing of the February 2013 Topbox. I was very happy to receive the box I was hoping for - the Benefit Privé box! Let's see what's inside, shall we?

The Benefit Privé box was a Chinese New Year themed box! It arrived much earlier than usual because Benefit wanted us to have the boxes in time to ring in the year of the snake. The packaging is outstanding and the Benefit team really went out of its way to make this a very special box for us. :)

Here is what I received (in order of appearance in the video):

1. Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream

Impressions: I've used this facial cream once and I really like it so far. It's a very thick and moisturizing formulation and has a nice scent as well.

Full size // 1.7 oz // $42
Sample size // 0.3 oz // approximately $7.41

2. Benefit Benetint

Impressions: This is a beautiful rose coloured tint that I have always wanted to try! I put on 2 layers of the tint and the product provided a natural looking flush to my cheeks. I just dotted on the product onto my cheekbones and blended it in with my fingertips. At first, I found the tint feels mildly sticky to the touch but after the product is absorbed, it is very comfortable (and not sticky) on the skin.

Full size // 0.42 oz // $36
Sample size // 0.08 oz // approximately $6.86

3. Benefit POREfessional

Impressions: I received one of these samples in my April 2012 Topbox and in my AMEX Topbox so this is the third time I've received a POREfessional sample from Topbox... but I love this product so I do not mind in the slightest. I really enjoy the texture, mattifying quality, scent, and tint of this primer.

Full size // 22 mL // $34
Sample size // 7.5 mL // approximately $11.59

4. Dandelion Powder

Impressions: I have been really intrigued by this product recently so I'm very happy to have received this sample in my Topbox! Dandelion is a beautiful light pink powder with a hint of shimmer. This powder does not really show up on my skin tone but I still enjoy using it. Like a few other Benefit products I've tried, the scent of the Dandelion powder is really pleasant.

Full size // 0.25 oz // $36
Sample size // 0.1 oz // approximately $14.40

5. Dandelion Ultra Plush Lip Gloss

Impressions: This lip gloss is described as a soft pearly pink. It's really pretty layered over my Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait. The lip gloss is not sticky and has a mouthwatering peach scent but no flavour that I can detect. This product is definitely a winner for me and I like receiving these small tubes as I find it very difficult to finish a lip gloss.

Full size // 0.5 oz // $18
Sample size // 0.22 oz // approximately $7.92

6. Benefit Fine One One

This is one of Benefit's newest products and I've read mixed reviews about it so I was happy to have a little sample to give this product a try. The sample we received was tucked into a little envelope akin to a Chinese red packet (which traditionally contains lucky money). I loved that little detail! The envelope had the same design as the Topbox tube. This is a card sample so there is very little product. I don't like receiving samples in this format because you don't really get a feel for the product's texture but at least I can see what the shades will look like on my skin tone.

Full size // 0.28 oz // $36
Sample size // no value assigned

Finally, I just want to show the Topbox product card - it is the regular description card but Benefit jazzed up the design with a cute graphic!

I absolutely LOVED this month's Topbox and I think this was my favourite box that I have ever received from any subscription service. Based on the reviews I have seen, the regular Topbox was amazing too - it included a Make Up For Ever product and a Deborah Lippmann nail polish! Topbox comes out with a stellar box every once in a while but overall I still feel the service has been mediocre as of late. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be keeping this subscription... perhaps just a few more months.

// Approximate value of the products in the February 2013 Topbox: $48.18 //

I was hoping that this would be a sign of great things to come from Topbox but I was a little disappointed with the March Privé box selections. I thought the Privé boxes were supposed to be single branded boxes but based on the choices for March, it looks like Topbox has been including some filler from its shop, perhaps to unload some old stock. Nevertheless, I chose to receive the Pure + Simple box in "Blush" as I have the blush in "Soleil" and I really like it... plus I am not sure this month's regular Topbox will be to my liking. I'd rather take the safe route and go with 2 products I know I'll enjoy.

If you wish to join Topbox through my invitation, I will earn a credit and send heaps of good karma your way!

Note: I purchased this Topbox with my own money.
