November 2012 Starbox - by Starlooks

The November edition is my favourite Starbox to date and it is probably my favourite out of all the subscription boxes I received in November! Starbox has really started to shine for me and I can safely say this is currently my favourite subscription service. As with previous months, the box was shipped in a bubble mailer from Los Angeles. It was shipped on November 16 and it was waiting for me in my mailbox when I came home from vacation so I'm not sure of the exact date it was delivered.

Press my nose to get me to talk:

Again this month, we received a different box in terms of the packaging... I absolutely love the cheetah print! I've been using the elastic bows as hairbands to keep my hair back when applying my makeup. Very convenient.

The theme this month was Nasty Gal - I have no idea why but one of my Youtube viewers mentioned that it might have something to do with the clothing brand. Here is what we received in the November Starbox:

1. Quartz Crystals

As with previous months, small quartz crystals are included in every Starbox. These crystals are supposed to attract energy and help maintain focus. The other idea is that subscribers can collect them in a glass jar to eventually build a brush holder. I received 2 small crystals this month.

2. Mascara Guard

Starlooks includes a little bonus in every Starbox. In November, we received a scary looking contraption that's supposed to help prevent smudging to your eyelid when you apply your mascara. There are two different size combs on the handle. I was so clumsy when trying out the Lash Cards from my October Glymm bag that I doubt I will get much use out of the mascara guard.

3. Eye Shadow Quad // 4 x 1.8 g // $36 (estimated)

This was our first customizable box! The products provided are supposed to allow each subscriber to create the perfect "prime look"... subscribers were asked to send an e-mail with their skin tone (light, medium, dark) and the eye shadow palette was designed according to our choice. I received the following shades for my medium skin tone:

- please me (shimmer // highlight)
- ominous (satin // all over lid colour)
- star light (shimmer // crease colour)
- mocha move (matte // outer corner)

The eye shadows are quite pigmented and easy to apply (I am wearing all the eye shadows in my video).

The eye shadow pan is not magnetized so all of the shades jiggle around and very easily pop out. I'll probably tape them down or something! A few subscribers received broken eye shadows because the products were not wrapped well enough during shipping - Starlooks has addressed this and will be adding some extra padding to future boxes.

The colours in the above photo are pulling a bit differently from real life. The video contains a more accurate colour representation.

4. Tender Gloss Lipstick in Cream Caramel // 3.8 g // $11

I was worried this lipstick would be too brown on me but it turned out to be the perfect nude for my skin tone! The formulation feels moisturizing on the lips. It is supposed to be a blend between a lip gloss and a lipstick... I didn't find it too glossy but I still really love this product.

Similar to the eye shadows, the lipstick shade looks completely different in the above photo - I think it's because of my flash. Oddly enough, the above photo looks a lot like the swatch that's on the Starlooks website. Regardless, I think the video screen capture (below) shows the colour more accurately. It's amazing how different lighting affects colour so dramatically.

I am very happy with this month's Starbox because the products are so wearable. I love the prime look I was able to create using the eye shadow and the lipstick - I thought the products were perfect for my skin tone. I am wearing this lip product in my video.

// Approximate value of the products in the November 2012 Starbox: $47 (not including the mascara guard) //

The November edition of "Why, Marci!?" is not yet available (Marci lost her voice so had to delay the video) - I will include it below when it has been posted.

For more information about the company, please check out my August Starbox review. The December theme is Be the Light and will include the 15 shade eye shadow palette... oh I cannot wait to receive this!

If you are interested in subscribing to Starbox, please mention ellesy or petitepearstyle when you sign up. I would really appreciate it and, as always, send heaps of good karma your way!

Note: Canadians who wish to subscribe to Starbox have to contact the company directly to get set up. I signed up by filling out the information on the contact form and a representative got back to me very quickly. I asked them to call me and I gave them my credit card information over the phone. I was recently notified by a Youtube viewer that shipping to Canada has changed to $4.50 - please contact Starlooks for a quote.

Note: I paid for the November Starbox with my own money.
