October 2012 Glossybox Canada - Unboxing & Review

The October Glossybox arrived at my door on November 1st. I ripped into it immediately, having read tweets from Glossybox Canada about this month's box being worth almost $80. So was it? Let's take a look and see.

Here is what i received (in order of appearance in the video):

1. Sebastian Trilliance Shampoo & Conditioner

Another Sebastian product. I've enjoyed trying the Sebastian products I've received so far but it seems Glossybox has a few brands in heavy rotation. I like trying new shampoo and conditioner duos; however, they don't exactly make me jump for joy. Maybe I should have checked the website first because the product description sounds pretty exciting.

Shampoo: Prepare for shine sublime. Trilliance Shampoo, with rock crystal extract, creates a dazzling foundation by cleansing and polishing hair to a natural diamond shine.

Conditioner: With rock crystal extract, Trilliance Conditioner smoothes roughened cuticles into a sublime light-reflecting surface for gorgeous natural shine and the perfect styling base.

Wow! I'm going to work the word sublime into my everyday vernacular. :)

Impressions: All joking aside, I used the shampoo and conditioner and quite liked them. Both products have a nice (and similar) scent; however, I preferred the scent of the conditioner a little more. It seemed to leave my hair very soft and silky the next day but I'm not sure if that was because I also used a new-to-me CHI product before going to bed that night.

Shampoo: Full Size // 250 mL // $15.79
sample size // 50 mL // approximate value of $3.16

Conditioner: Full Size // 250 mL // $16.59
sample size // 50 mL // approximate value of $3.32

2. Jouviance Rejuvenating Anti-Aging Cream

Jouviance is a brand that is based in Montreal and was started by a "North American dermatologist" - I had never heard of this brand but I do not mind receiving anti-aging products so I was happy to try this product. The cream is described as a 3-in-1. It's a day cream, a night cream, and an eye cream. I am not sure why anti-aging products are so expensive - I don't think I would ever buy any at full price so I am glad I get them in my beauty boxes.

Impressions: I have only tried the cream once and I found it to be just average. It is a little light for me to use as a night cream but it applied nicely to my skin and has no scent. I will continue using this and let you know if I have any updates to provide.

full size // 50 mL // $93.50
sample size // 5 mL // approximate value of $9.35

3. Zoya Nail Polish in Scarlet

I love baby pink so I liked seeing this Zoya nail polish in my Glossybox. The Zoya website classifies this polish as a 1 (with 1 being sheer and 5 being opaque). The colour is described as follows:

Light dusty rose pink with cool tones in a sheer creme finish. A sheer, clean pink that adds a clean glossy look to nails.

Impressions: The colour is very very sheer and two coats on my nails provided minimal coverage. Instead, it gave my nails a really subtle, milky pink shine, which I still liked. I have a few sheer pink polishes but I am really enjoying the milky, almost jelly-like consistency of this one. The formula is great - easy to apply and not streaky.

Full size & sample size // 15 mL // $8

4. Model Co. Lip Duo

The lip duo was my favourite product in the October Glossybox. I've heard of Model Co. but never tried any of the products. It is a brand based in Australia. I believe most, if not all, of us received the same colour: lipstick in Dusk and gloss in Striptease. When I opened up the product, I noticed right away that both the lipstick and the gloss smell like strawberries! The gloss comes with a doe-foot applicator. I found it a little strange that there is a mirror on the actual lipstick/gloss tube (versus on the cap) so you can't look in the mirror while you're putting on the product.

This product is not on the Model Co. regular product line; however, I found it on the Glossybox U.S. website.

Impressions:Due to the size of the product, I found the application a little awkward but I really liked the texture and feel of both the lipstick and the gloss. The colour of the lipstick worn on its own is a little too brown for my liking but with the included lip gloss (or with my Laura Mercier lip glace in Baby Doll), I found the shade very pretty. The lip gloss on its own is very sheer and almost colourless. It has some silver shimmer in it and is very glossy but not sticky.

Full size & sample size // Lipstick 3.8 g and Gloss 2.3 mL // $38.75

5. Gilette Venus & Olay Razor

This was the item I was least excited about in the October Glossybox. Some products I feel actually take away from the box for me and this unfortunately was one of those products. We received a razor in the June Glossybox and I feel it's a little soon to include another one. I have not tried this product yet but I will provide an update if there is something worth writing about.

Full size & sample size // 1 razor // $16.99

Overall, I have mixed feelings about this month's Glossybox. While the value of the products included was quite high, it doesn't really make me want to stay subscribed at the new price of $21 a month. I really liked the lip product and the nail polish but the other products were ho-hum to me. I think I will stick to my plan of cancelling once I redeem my remaining Glossydots.

One last thing I want to mention - since Glossybox bills on the 10th of the month that the box is received, you could theoretically subscribe to a box after you see spoilers online. Quite a number of people did that with the September Glossybox to receive the NYX palette. Basically, if you are willing to pay $21 for the October Glossybox, I am pretty sure you can still get it as long as you subscribe by November 9. A bit of an odd loophole but, until Glossybox closes it, that's what I'll be doing if I see a box I really want.

// Approximate value of the products in the October 2012 Glossybox: $79.57 //

Did you receive a Glossybox this month and, if so, what did you think of the contents?

If you wish to join Glossybox through my invitation, I will earn Glossydots and send heaps of good karma your way!

FTC: I paid for this box and nothing was sent to me for free.
