March 2013 Empties

Lots of empties in March! I made a big dent in my collection of bar soap. :)

* = Disliked the product - would not repurchase
** = Liked the product - might or might not repurchase
*** = Loved the product - would repurchase

1. Wen Cleansing Conditioner in Cucumber Aloe
Source: Denyse from QueencessQuality
Thoughts: I am really loving this product! It did a great job at cleaning my hair and was super gentle as well. This product does not contain sodium lauryl sulphate so it does not foam or lather. To properly cleanse your hair, you do have to follow the directions exactly (massage scalp for 1-3 minutes and leave the cleansing conditioner in your hair for 3-5 minutes).

2. Asira Shampoo
Source: Hotel product
Thoughts: The scent of this shampoo was alright but it did not do anything special for my hair.
Rating: *

3. Kiehl's Amino Acid Shampoo
Source: Kiehl's gift set from Hubs
Thoughts: I liked this shampoo a lot. The scent was great (like coconut) and the lather was nice and soft. The price, however, is a little too high for me to purchase this on a regular basis.

4. Nexxus Humectress Ultimate Hydrating Conditioner
Source: November 2012 Glossybox
Thoughts: The more I use this product, the less I like it. I find the scent is very artificial smelling (tropical fruit & coconut).

5. Gilchrist & Soames Hair Protector
Source: Hotel product
Thoughts: I don't think I received enough product to properly test this out. I thought the scent was ok but the conditioner didn't seem to do anything for my hair.
Rating: *

6. Neutrogena Clean Conditioner
Source: Unknown
Thoughts: Similar comments as #5: I don't think I received enough product to properly test this out. I thought the scent was ok but the conditioner didn't seem to do anything for my hair.

7. Lush Candy Cane Soap (note: my soap did not look anything like the product in this link so I've included a photo below)
Source: This was part of a Christmas gift from one of my sisters
Thoughts: I liked the scent of this soap but it did not really stand out in any other way to me.
Rating: **

8. Lush So White Bath Bomb
Source: This was part of a Christmas gift from one of my sisters
Thoughts: I did not like this bath bomb. It didn't fizz or froth and it did not smell like apples. My lovely YT viewers told me that this was probably because I had the bath bomb for too long (over a year hehe... oops, I had tucked it away and totally forgotten about it). Maybe I will buy another one and give it another try.

9. Ella's Botanicals Anoint Me Soap
Source: Full size bar was purchased by me at the Beauty Board and sample size was in the goody bag
Thoughts: I loved the smell of this soap when I initially smelled it at the Beauty Board; however, when I used it in the shower, it didn't smell that great. Maybe I had it for too long. I also found that this soap dissolved extremely quickly - much faster than other bar soaps.

10. Ella's Botanicals Lavender Rose Soap
Source: Full size bar was purchased by me at the Beauty Board
Thoughts: Same comments as #9: I loved the smell of this soap when I initially smelled it at the Beauty Board; however, when I used it in the shower, it didn't smell that great. Maybe I had it for too long. I also found that this soap dissolved extremely quickly - much faster than other bar soaps.

11. Villainess Soap in Scintillating
Source: November 2012 Glymm Bag
Thoughts: I loved the smell of this soap when I first received it (mmmm, chocolate mint) but it didn't smell very good in the shower. Maybe I had it for too long? I do have a full size of this so I'll give it another try and see if I like it any better.
Rating: *

12. Villainess Soap in Ginger Snapped
Source: February 2013 Glymm Bag
Thoughts: I liked this soap but it smells like cinnamon to the extreme. Cinnamon is not my favourite scent so I likely would not purchase the full size unless it were in a set.

13. Elizabeth Grant Biocollasis Complex Advanced Cellular Age Defense Eye Power Pads
Source: Glossy Party TO
Thoughts: I woke up one morning after sleeping for 7-8 hours with the most humongous bags under my eyes. It freaked me out a little so I finally pulled out the eye power pads to give them a try. These are like sheet masks but just for the under eye region. I really enjoyed using these but I'm not sure if they were actually effective. Perhaps they were because the severe bags have not re-appeared. That being said, I doubt I will be purchasing these pads due to the price.

14. Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizer Wipe
Source: Glossy Party TO
Thoughts: I like these wipes - they are extremely handy. I use them to sanitize my tweezers and to clean up my makeup products as needed.
Rating: **

15. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
Source: March 2012 Glossybox
Thoughts: I can't believe it took me a year to use this up. I did keep it at work to use as a hand cream so perhaps that's why it lasted so long. I love this lotion - it is non-greasy and extremely fast absorbing.
Rating: ***

16. Villainess Whipped Body Creme in Dulces En Fuego
Source: Purchased by me using my Glymm points
Thoughts: I absolutely love this creme! It is very moisturizing and has a thick & creamy texture but it does not leave an oily residue. One of my favourite formulations for body butter type products.

17. Boscia Vanilla Blotting Linens
Source: Purchased by me in the ebeauty.ca Here Comes the Sun Cosmetic Bag
Thoughts: It took me a while to get used to the texture and material of these blotting linens. When I first started using them, I must have been way too rough because they tore so easily! I loved them once I got the hang of it though. :) They are great at removing excess oil and leaving your skin with a nice matte finish.

18. Sephora Anti-Shine Foundation Primer
Source: Sephora gift with purchase
Thoughts: I liked this primer but I likely would not purchase the full size because I love Benefit POREfessional much much more. The Sephora primer almost feels gritty in comparison.
Rating: **

19. Essence Forget It! 3-in-1 Concealer
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: I wasn't a huge fan of this product because I found the texture did not really work for my skin. It seemed a little cakey/flakey but perhaps it's because my skin is on the dry side even with my daily moisturizer?

20. Bare Minerals Round the Clock Waterproof Eyeliner in 5PM
Source: Purchased by me - in the Putting on the Glitz Kit
Thoughts: I loved this eyeliner when I used it the first few times because it was very smudgey and blendable. It completely dried out on me though and does not even draw anymore. I later noticed there was a crack in the cap. :(
Rating: **

21. Seche Vite Top Coat
Source: I won this from one of Aleeza's amazing giveaways
Thoughts: I am mixed about this topcoat. On the one hand, I love how quickly it dries and the shiny finish. However, on the other hand, I don't like the scent or the shrinkage when it dries. I am going to experiment with a few other topcoats before I decide whether to purchase this product.

22. Revlon Eyelash Curler
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: I've had this eyelash curler for years and I really like it. I'm saying goodbye to it because it doesn't curl as well as it used to (the mechanism appears to be loose) and I find I've been reaching for my Julep eyelash curler instead. I'd consider re-purchasing this but I do want to try some of the other well-reviewed eyelash curlers first (like Shiseido and Shu Uemura).

23. Pure + Simple Lavender Hydrosol
Source: Goody bag at the Yoga Tree grand opening
Thoughts: I enjoyed this product very much! It smells wonderful - just like lavender but a very light, fresh, and natural scent. I would spray this on my face, use it as a body mist, and finish my bath with it. I'd consider purchasing the full size but I'm not sure whether it's discontinued as I don't see it on the Pure + Simple website. I also prefer the Dream Organics Rose Water from my February 2013 SeasonsBox.
Rating: **

24. Victoria's Secret Garden Collection - Pure Seduction Body Mist
Source: Gift from one of my sisters
Thoughts: I can't believe I actually finished a fragrance because I never ever finish fragrances! This was a small one though. :) I liked this scent for the evening and I would mist quite a lot of it before bed... which is probably why I was actually able to use it up. This is a very sweet floral scent.
Rating: **

25. Bath & Body Works Candle in Brandied Pear
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: I'm not sure why I picked this scent because I don't really like it. I think I was tricked by the name because I love the scent of pear. This candle, however, smelled way too sweet - like candy rather than pear.
Rating: *

26. Wet Ones Fresh Scent Antibacterial Hand & Face Wipes
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: I always have a supply of these wipes on hand because I love them for cleaning my shoes, my makeup brush, and my counter or desk. These wipes stay moist to the very last one - I've never had a package dry out on me. I keep a container at home and another container at work. The only reason I am rating this less than 3 stars is because I prefer the unscented, fragrance free version.

27. David's Tea Ceylon Star
Source: Free sample with purchase
Thoughts: I was not a fan of this tea. I don't really like flavoured tea in the first place (except Earl Grey, which happens to be my favourite) and this one tasted very strongly of star anise (similar to licorice).
Rating: *

28. David's Tea Sleigh Ride
Source: Free sample with purchase
Thoughts: This is a herbal infusion that smells like Christmas. I didn't really enjoy receiving a Christmas tisane sample as I placed my order in February so I felt like I was getting leftovers. I wasn't a fan of this infusion - it just didn't suit my taste.
Rating: *

29. David's Tea Decaf Earl Grey
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: I really liked that David's Tea offers a decaf black tea as I don't find many of them kicking around. I thought this tea was ok - it wasn't very flavourful, likely because it was decaffeinated. I finished two 50g bags in a short period of time because I was brewing a big mug full every single night. I will be decaffeinating at home from now on as the tea retains more flavour... it also retains more caffeine but my body seems to be reacting ok so far.
Rating: **

30. David's Tea Nepal Black
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: My hubby loves this tea! I thought it was alright but I will be giving it another try as I ordered a big bag of it for Hubs.
Rating: **

31. David's Tea Kenyan Tinderet
Source: Purchased by me
Thoughts: I love this tea. It reminds me of the tea we purchased when we visited a tea factory in Kenya. This tea is strong, rich, and flavourful.
Rating: ***

That's it for this month! Please let me know if you've tried any of these products and whether you have any tea recommendations. We've been drinking a ton of David's Tea because I took my hubby there for his birthday and we picked out around 8 different teas but I can't say many of them are really standing out to me. I've been loving nourishtea lately - the Warming Chamomile is wonderful and I just purchased The Duke of Earl, which I can't wait to try!
