October 2012 Empties

Once again, I think I did pretty well with my empties this month! However, while I finished a lot of mediocre products in September, this month was jam-packed with products I love.

Here are the products I finished in October - in order of appearance in the video:

1. Aveda Invati Shampoo & Conditioner

I received these samples in my October Topbox and I was not impressed. The tubes were pretty much one-time use samples and the product smelled very strongly of herbal medicine. I only used this product once but I didn't notice a difference in my hair. I will not be purchasing this product.

2. Nexxus Therappe Luxurious Hydrating Shampoo

We received this very generous sized sample as a bonus in my August Topbox. This shampoo smells like (artificial) sweet coconut. I found it was fine on my hair but it wasn't any better than any other drug store shampoo. I didn't dislike this shampoo but I didn't like it either so I will not be purchasing the full size.

3. Nexxus Humectress Ultimate Hydrating Conditioner

This sample was also a bonus item in the August Topbox. The comments I had on the shampoo pretty much mirror my thoughts on the conditioner. The scent of the conditioner was a little different (sweeter and more like tropical fruit). I didn't mind this conditioner but it's not something I would seek out to purchase.

4. Evolvh Shampoo & Conditioner

I received these samples in my September Glymm bag and I absolutely fell in love with these products. The conditioner in particular was very different from anything I've tried before - it was immediately absorbed by my hair. I noticed a difference in my hair the next day - it became very soft and silky. I used my Glymm points to purchase these products.

5. John Frieda Frizz-Ease Sheer Solution

This sample was included in my July Glossybox and I quite liked the product. Earlier this year, I got, not one, but two digital perms (they didn't really work out as my hair barely has a body wave in it)... and the chemicals rendered my hair a little more dry and brittle than usual. I started using this product almost every time after washing my hair and my hair seemed to improve. This product was probably not the only contributor but I am still partial to it. Even still, I am not sure I will be purchasing the full size of this product because I have a few similar products I want to use up first.

6. Cake Beauty Satin Sugar Hair & Body Refreshing Powder for Darker Hues

I can't believe I actually finished a powder dry shampoo because this stuff seems to last forever! This dry shampoo is very effective but I prefer the Principessa Beauty version a little more due to the scent and the colour. The Cake dry shampoo smells, not surprisingly, like cake but I find the scent too sweet for my hair. The colour is a little lighter and more red/orange than the Principessa Beauty version. I'd re-purchase this product only at a significant discount.

7. Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths

I was introduced to this product in my January Glymm box and I absolutely fell in love with this product. I used another two of the cleansing cloths in October, during a weekend getaway to Niagara-on-the-Lake. I love bringing these cloths with me when I travel because they are so easy to pack (and to use). For this reason, I always buy the individually wrapped cloths. I will re-purchase this product over and over again!

8. L'Oreal Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

I've had this eye makeup remover for a very long time - I think I got it at one of the First Canadian Place info sessions (I miss going to those... lots of free goodies!). I find quite a few cleansers sting my eyes so I liked this cleanser because it didn't burn! I'm not sure if this product is still available in stores (I only saw the waterproof formulation online) but I'd consider purchasing it if I saw it.

9. Villainess Dulces En Fuego Whipped Body Creme

I received a teeny tiny sample of this body creme in my September Glymm bag. This product smells delicious - like a mix between chocolate cupcakes and gingerbread. I liked the scent but I wasn't sure if I would like the cream because I typically do not like sugary sweet scents on my body. Lo and behold, I fell in love with this product after using it a few times. It applies really nicely and feels very comfortable on the skin. I used my Glymm points to purchase the full size.

10. Be Fine Night Cream

This was one of the many samples included in my August Glossybox. I only needed to use it once to fall in love with this product because I noticed the difference in my skin the very next morning! My skin felt softer and more moisturized. Click here to read my full review of this product. I haven't been able to find this product in stores (only online but I don't want to pay for shipping) so I have not purchased the full size yet. I'm going to try a few other creams first.

11. MaskerAide Sheet Mask in Detox Diva

I just posted a review on this product yesterday! This sample was my favourite product from my October Topbox. I was so impressed with this product that I have already purchased a few more MaskerAide masks to try.

12. Complex 15 Daily Face Cream

I've been using this product for years and years. My friend mentioned it to me after her dermatologist recommended it for her sensitive and acne-prone skin. It's very light, non-greasy, and absorbs almost immediately. I use this face cream every day but I usually apply a heavier night cream just before bed for a little more moisture overnight. I will continue to re-purchase this product.

13. Kellett Skincare Moisturizing Gel

This sample was included in my August Topbox and I enjoyed trying it. I really liked the texture of this product and the pump bottle made it easy to dispense. That being said, I will not be purchasing the full size (a) because I wasn't sure if it did anything for my skin and (b) because it is very expensive.

14. Benta Berry Super Moisturizing Face Cream for Girls

I wasn't expecting much from this product as I received the G-1 cream in my August Glymm bag and absolutely hated it. I think I may have growled when I saw what looked to be an identical tube in my September Glymm bag. I was surprised that I actually liked this product. It applied nicely to my skin, smelled nice, and (best of all) did not flake off in little bits! There are other creams I like better though so I will not be purchasing the full size.

15. Premium Cotton Pads

I picked up these cotton pads from Dollarama and I basically use these to take off my nail polish. I was in a pinch because I ran out of the Shiseido Facial Cotton so I started using the Dollarama version to take off my eye makeup and apply my toner. These cotton pads are pretty average but I would still re-purchase them.

16. M. Asam Vino Gold Perfect Teint

This sample is a primer and I received it in my September Topbox. I really love all the M. Asam products I've tried so far and this one was no exception. This primer is very smooth and mattifying plus I love the scent. I am thinking of saving my Glymm points so I can use them for some more M. Asam products.

17. Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara in Black

I received this full size mascara in my April Glossybox. I thought it was ok - nothing too special. I'm actually not sure if the tube is empty but the product has started to dry out and clump so I decided it was time to say goodbye. I would not purchase this product because I feel there are better mascaras out there at a lower price point.

18. The Lash Card

This product was included in my October Glymm bag. I did not like this product. I find it gimmicky and wasteful. I also found it very awkward to try to hold a lash card to my eye while applying mascara - I just couldn't get the hang of it. I will definitely not be purchasing this product.

19. Algemarin Foam Bath

This was a bonus sample in my March Glossybox and I loved it so much that I immediately purchased a 5 pack. Things I enjoy about this product: it provides a very spa-like scent, turns the bath water a pretty blue colour, and produces really soft foam. The only downside to this product is that the foam does not last very long. This product is very inexpensive and I will continue to re-purchase it.

20. Aveeno Energizing Body Wash

I really love the Aveeno line of body washes. This one smells like lemongrass, rosemary, and mint. It feels nice when used on the skin and also makes my skin feel very clean and soft. This product comes in quite a large bottle so it lasts a really long time. I would re-purchase this product.

Whew, that was a long post... thank you so much for reading!
