November 2012 Topbox - Unboxing and Review

This month's Topbox was definitely more to my liking! There were a lot of variations this month but I feel Topbox did a pretty good job making sure the boxes were reasonably equitable among subscribers. For reference, I received BOX-17.

Here is what I received (in order of appearance in the video):

1. China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Elephant Walk

A few months ago, I saw many Loose Button subscribers receive a China Glaze nail polish from the On Safari collection in their fall Luxebox and I really liked most (if not all) of the shades! My favourite of the bunch was definitely Elephant Walk so I was very happy when I received this very colour in my November Topbox! This is a cool-toned grey that leans a little blue and/or green in certain lighting. It's got barely detectible shimmer in it (I didn't even realize there was any shimmer until I looked at the bottle very closely).

Impressions: Now that I've tried this shade, I was not loving it as much as I thought I would. The grey is a little too cool and I feel it's not that flattering on my skin tone. The formulation was thicker than normal so it became a little goopy to apply. That being said, I am still happy I received this product.

Full Size & Sample Size // 14 mL // $7.75 (card says $10 to $12 but it's available on Nail Polish Canada for $7.75)

2. Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure I indicated on my last Topbox survey that I was allergic to perfume yet I still received this sample. It appears all subscribers received a fragrance this month... gone are the good ole days when Topbox did not sample fragrances. I really love miniature perfume bottles though and this one is very pretty! The box it came in ain't too shabby either.

This fragrance is described as an amber floral scent and here are the notes:

Top Notes... Pink Peppercorn - Green Mandarin
Heart Notes... Orange Flower - Mirabelle Plum
Base Notes... Roasted Tonka Beans - Benzoin Laos

I think I read somewhere that this scent was inspired by actress and model, Elisa Sednaoui.

Impressions: I've only worn this fragrance once but it didn't give me a scent headache so that was definitely a relief! The scent is a little too mature and spicy for me as I normally gravitate towards lighter, fresher, and more citrusy scents. I thought this fragrance was ok - it was definitely not my favourite but the scent did not bother me.

full size // 50 mL // $80
sample size // 5 mL // approximate value of $8

3. Cuccio Naturale Pomegranate & Fig Butter Blend

When I initially pulled out this product, I thought it was a full sized lip balm. I was a little disappointed in the sample size when I saw that it was actually a cream. It's intended for hand, feet, and body so I guess it's a decent sample size for a hand cream. I've never heard of this brand and a quick visit to the website revealed that the company was founded in 1999 and was apparently the first natural nail, hand, and foot care treatment product line. The company is based in California.

Impressions: I wasn't sure how to open this product at first and eventually figured you have to cut off the skinny part of the little nib on the tip of the tube so you can squeeze the product out. I was so surprised by how much I loved the scent of this product! It smells fruity, sweet, and refreshing. :) This is a great hand cream - I really like the texture - it is non-greasy and absorbs quickly. It makes my hands feel very soft. I'm considering buying the full size, which apparently will be available on the Topbox online shop (not yet listed at the time of this post).

full size // 240 g // $18.95
sample size // 9.24 g // approximately $0.73

4. Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes

I used to not like receiving eye liners in my beauty boxes because I never really wore eye liner. Lately though, I've been loving the look of tight-lined eyes so I was a little more excited than normal to receive this MUFE sample. I couldn't find the shade of the eye liner at first but now I see it's the 0L (Mat Black) shade. This sample looks really tiny but it's actually 62.5% of the full size!

Impressions: This eye liner is very creamy and I enjoyed trying it. I've worn it around 2-3 times (tight-line) and it held up pretty well except it smudged pretty badly under my eye the first time I wore it (maybe I rubbed my eyes?). I still prefer the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil though. :)

full size // 0.04 oz // $20
sample size // 0.025 oz // approximately $12.50

When I first opened the Topbox, I wasn't blown away mainly because of the sample sizes (they took up less than half the tube). However, after taking a closer look at the products and trying them out, I realized they were actually all decent sizes for the most part and very good products. Overall, I am happy to say that I am quite happy with my November Topbox! :)

// Approximate value of the products in the November 2012 Topbox: $28.98 //

What version of the Topbox did you receive this month? What did you think of the samples?

If you wish to join Topbox through my invitation, I will earn a credit and send heaps of good karma your way!

FTC: I purchased this Topbox with my own money.
