November 2012 Glymm Bag - Unboxing & Review

UPDATE (April 2013): Please read my most recent post on Glymm before ordering from this company.

After a decent October bag, I'm sad to say Glymm really disappointed me this month. There were 2 samples that I really liked; however, they were teeny tiny. Not only that but my Glymm bag did not include my bonus nail polish or the product card. I was irritated so I put away the Glymm bag, e-mailed member services, and just left it for a few days... which is why my review is so late. Click on my nose to watch the video. :)

I liked the makeup bag we received this month - it is black with an embossed snakeskin pattern but it smells a little strong (like plastic).

Here is what I received (in order of appearance in the video):

1. Lys Parisien Moisturizing Shampoo & Moisturizing Balm

More shampoo and conditioner samples! I don't mind receiving this type of sample but it's becoming a little too much, even for me. There was very little information about this brand online - I couldn't find a website but Lys Parisien appears to be a salon located in Quebec City. Both the shampoo and balm (conditioner) have "Pure and Organic Argan Oil" on the packaging; however, argan oil was only listed as an ingredient on the conditioner so I felt that was misleading. These products contain sulphates.

Impressions: I liked the scent of these products - they smell complex yet mild and pleasant... unfortunately, I can't describe the scent any better than that! The weight/texture of both the shampoo and conditioner was really thick and I found my hair was just ok after using the products. My hair was not that soft and it seemed to get greasy sooner than with other products.

Shampoo: Full Size // 500 mL // $24
Sample size // 60 mL // approximate value of $2.88

Conditioner: Full Size // 500 mL // $24
Sample size // 60 mL // approximate value of $2.88

2. The Beehive Eau de Parfum in Honey Blossom

I was so unimpressed with receiving another fragrance sample (and also the size of the vial) that I didn't do any research on this company before filming my video. Later, I did a quick Google search and learned that this company is a clothing store located in Manhattan Beach, California.

Impressions: I thought this scent was alright, nothing special. My hubby seemed to really like it though (he thought it was unique) so it won some points there. I liked that the little vial had a pokey thing because it made it very easy to apply the fragrance.

Full size // 100 mL // $35
Sample size // 0.7 mL // approximate value of $0.25

3. Villainess Scintillating Body Soap

This was one of the products that I liked in the Glymm bag this month. It's a small sliver of soap that smells absolutely divine! I could breathe in this scent all day. It smells like mint chocolate (just like After Eights, which I love to eat!). Not only does this soap smell good, it looks pretty and is reasonably priced too. I'm starting to really love the Villainess brand!

Full size // 3.5 oz // $5.50
Sample size // 0.5 oz // approximate value of $0.79

4. The New Black Nail Polish

I couldn't find a website for this brand but it is sold in quite a few stores - Winners, Marshalls, Sephora, ebeauty.ca, Glymm... the list goes on. These mini nail polishes are sold in sets - I think I've seen them in sets of 3, 5, and 8. I read somewhere that the bottles are intentionally tiny to help reduce the environmental footprint from consumers tossing out half-used bottles of nail polish. Although I don't throw them out, I've actually never finished a full size bottle of nail polish (full size being approximately 15 mL) so I like the concept of smaller bottles. However, the nail polish shades do not seem to have names, which is kind of annoying because I'm not sure how I would re-purchase this shade or convey to someone which colour it is.

Impressions: I love the nail polish shade I received in my Glymm bag! It is a beautifully vibrant tomato red with a jelly finish. My nails looked like candy and I received a lot of compliments!

Full size // 3 mini polishes x 4 mL // $15
Sample size // 1 mini polish x 4 mL // approximately $5

Overall, I was not very pleased with the Glymm bag this month. I'm even more disappointed now that I've calculated out the value. This is the lowest value bag I've ever received. Did you receive a Glymm bag this month? If so, what did you think of the samples?

// Approximate value of the products in the November 2012 Glymm bag: $11.88 //

The interesting twist is that I probably would have been very happy with this bag if I had received my bonus nail polish as promised. It looks like the bonus brand this month was Coccolilly and I loved the Coccolily polish I received in my August Glymm bag. I e-mailed member services already and Glymm promised to send a replacement bottle in my December bag but I have a feeling there's going to be a hiccup. Maybe they'll just send my bonus November polish and not my bonus December polish? I think Glymm should send out any missing products immediately - not with the next bag. I've also asked them 3 or 4 times about whether the product card is available online but they seem to conveniently miss that question each time. Not impressed!

I'm not sure if the nail polish promotion is still on but if you're interested, you can check out my previous blog post. If you wish to join Glymm through my invitation, I will earn 50 points and send heaps of good karma your way!

Note: I paid for this subscription with my own money.
