November 2012 Glymm Bag - Unboxing & Review

UPDATE (April 2013): Please read my most recent post on Glymm before ordering from this company.

After a decent October bag, I'm sad to say Glymm really disappointed me this month. There were 2 samples that I really liked; however, they were teeny tiny. Not only that but my Glymm bag did not include my bonus nail polish or the product card. I was irritated so I put away the Glymm bag, e-mailed member services, and just left it for a few days... which is why my review is so late. Click on my nose to watch the video. :)

I liked the makeup bag we received this month - it is black with an embossed snakeskin pattern but it smells a little strong (like plastic).

Here is what I received (in order of appearance in the video):

1. Lys Parisien Moisturizing Shampoo & Moisturizing Balm

More shampoo and conditioner samples! I don't mind receiving this type of sample but it's becoming a little too much, even for me. There was very little information about this brand online - I couldn't find a website but Lys Parisien appears to be a salon located in Quebec City. Both the shampoo and balm (conditioner) have "Pure and Organic Argan Oil" on the packaging; however, argan oil was only listed as an ingredient on the conditioner so I felt that was misleading. These products contain sulphates.

Impressions: I liked the scent of these products - they smell complex yet mild and pleasant... unfortunately, I can't describe the scent any better than that! The weight/texture of both the shampoo and conditioner was really thick and I found my hair was just ok after using the products. My hair was not that soft and it seemed to get greasy sooner than with other products.

Shampoo: Full Size // 500 mL // $24
Sample size // 60 mL // approximate value of $2.88

Conditioner: Full Size // 500 mL // $24
Sample size // 60 mL // approximate value of $2.88

2. The Beehive Eau de Parfum in Honey Blossom

I was so unimpressed with receiving another fragrance sample (and also the size of the vial) that I didn't do any research on this company before filming my video. Later, I did a quick Google search and learned that this company is a clothing store located in Manhattan Beach, California.

Impressions: I thought this scent was alright, nothing special. My hubby seemed to really like it though (he thought it was unique) so it won some points there. I liked that the little vial had a pokey thing because it made it very easy to apply the fragrance.

Full size // 100 mL // $35
Sample size // 0.7 mL // approximate value of $0.25

3. Villainess Scintillating Body Soap

This was one of the products that I liked in the Glymm bag this month. It's a small sliver of soap that smells absolutely divine! I could breathe in this scent all day. It smells like mint chocolate (just like After Eights, which I love to eat!). Not only does this soap smell good, it looks pretty and is reasonably priced too. I'm starting to really love the Villainess brand!

Full size // 3.5 oz // $5.50
Sample size // 0.5 oz // approximate value of $0.79

4. The New Black Nail Polish

I couldn't find a website for this brand but it is sold in quite a few stores - Winners, Marshalls, Sephora, ebeauty.ca, Glymm... the list goes on. These mini nail polishes are sold in sets - I think I've seen them in sets of 3, 5, and 8. I read somewhere that the bottles are intentionally tiny to help reduce the environmental footprint from consumers tossing out half-used bottles of nail polish. Although I don't throw them out, I've actually never finished a full size bottle of nail polish (full size being approximately 15 mL) so I like the concept of smaller bottles. However, the nail polish shades do not seem to have names, which is kind of annoying because I'm not sure how I would re-purchase this shade or convey to someone which colour it is.

Impressions: I love the nail polish shade I received in my Glymm bag! It is a beautifully vibrant tomato red with a jelly finish. My nails looked like candy and I received a lot of compliments!

Full size // 3 mini polishes x 4 mL // $15
Sample size // 1 mini polish x 4 mL // approximately $5

Overall, I was not very pleased with the Glymm bag this month. I'm even more disappointed now that I've calculated out the value. This is the lowest value bag I've ever received. Did you receive a Glymm bag this month? If so, what did you think of the samples?

// Approximate value of the products in the November 2012 Glymm bag: $11.88 //

The interesting twist is that I probably would have been very happy with this bag if I had received my bonus nail polish as promised. It looks like the bonus brand this month was Coccolilly and I loved the Coccolily polish I received in my August Glymm bag. I e-mailed member services already and Glymm promised to send a replacement bottle in my December bag but I have a feeling there's going to be a hiccup. Maybe they'll just send my bonus November polish and not my bonus December polish? I think Glymm should send out any missing products immediately - not with the next bag. I've also asked them 3 or 4 times about whether the product card is available online but they seem to conveniently miss that question each time. Not impressed!

I'm not sure if the nail polish promotion is still on but if you're interested, you can check out my previous blog post. If you wish to join Glymm through my invitation, I will earn 50 points and send heaps of good karma your way!

Note: I paid for this subscription with my own money.

  1. I was alright with this bag, but overall I'm pretty much just waiting out my subscription at this point. I feel like canceling would be a huge hassle, and I don't feel like putting a ton of effort into getting my money back (and I assume it would require effort).

I got a different nail colour, still red but with a gold shimmer. It's actually really pretty, so I was happy with that. And I got a sugar scrub from dirt that is TINY - one use TOPS. I would have much rather gotten the soap sample!

    1. i have a feeling i've received the dirt salt scrub before... maybe that's why i got the soap instead? i think i read somewhere that the ombre sets of "the new black" polishes include different finishes - jelly, cream, shimmer, glitter... kind of a neat concept!

    2. I definitely got a dirt product before, but it wasn't the scrub or the soap...some kind of mask maybe?

    3. i think i recall glymm sendng out 2 different dirt products in a previous box... i got the salt scrub, which i thought was ok but a little bit oily (due to the ingredients)... i still liked it though! :)

  2. Hmm, they aren't very organized if they're forgetting your extra polish! You got it last time, why not this time? That was weird.

Very nice polish colour and I can imagine the Villainess soap being nice, I loved the cream we got the other month before I cancelled with them. I wish they were in stores nearby.

  4. I was so dissapointed with this month as well. The promo polish I got was Coccolily polish in nude snow, just for your information :). thanks for the review!

    1. i hope i get a coccolily polish when they send my november bonus polish... they said they couldn't guarantee it, which i think is poor customer service. ah well, we'll see what december brings.

  6. I am so intrigued by the soap you got. I love soap!!! mint chocolate? sounds delicious.

I also like mini polishes. I agree with Kat that I never go through a full bottle because the colours I buy are always the "in" colour of the season. I go through full bottles of base and top coat but that's about it.

  7. I have been quite disappointed with Glymm overall that I actually emailed asking to cancel*

To my surprise, they offered me a 'free gift' if I continued my subscription, which I gave in to (who wouldn't?).. my free gift ended up being a burt's bees tinted lip balm which I actually really love. I just find Glymm to be very hit or miss.. why don't they organize themselves a little and listen to their customers! I wish they would send us more makeup samples and less soaps, lotions and shampoos ...

I too received the mini 'new black' nailpolish but I like your colour a lot better. Mine came in a questionable purple shade I don't think I'd ever wear (it's a very young looking colour.. think tween). The soap was okay.. I got two kinds, one being a chocolate brown colour that melts all over my soap dish and sink - huge mess!

    * First of all, I find it silly they make you contact them if you wish to cancel because it makes it so much more difficult for the customer! Second of all, they forgot a product in my FIRST EVER Glymm bag I received (and surprise, surprise.. it was a conditioner). They also send Glymm bags mid-month (shouldnt a month subscription come at the beginning of every month?) and worse of all, they charge you for next month's before you even receive the current month's so who know's if you're even satisfied with it before they charge you? So many errors.. Glymm get yourself together!

    1. thanks for your comment! i've heard in the past that glymm provides an "incentive" to people who try to cancel... i think that's totally backwards and glymm needs to focus on keeping their current subscribers. i'm really annoyed by their customer service at the moment - i had to e-mail them 4 times about my bonus nail polish because they kept giving me incomplete responses to my e-mails. very frustrating.

i also wish glymm would just listen to their subscribers!

    2. Sonia - Did you have a month-to-month subscription? I have a yearly subscription that I am considering cancelling but I feel like they're going to make it a huge hassle if I try!

  8. Worst 'box' company EVER!! They shorted me on items (December box came with 2 pieces of absolute garbage in it) i've emailed & emailed, FB posts & twitter, they refuse to reply at all saying they're "too busy"
Probably with all the TONS of complaints about this crappy box.

SHAME ON GLYMM!!! DO NOT GET THIS BOX, get the Luxe Box or Glossy, they dont screw you over & then ignore you for weeks.

Megmar - good luck on the refund, I tried that & didnt go well. :( Hopefully you dont have to suffer thru their garbage too long

    1. i'm sorry to hear about your experience!! being "too busy" is not an acceptable response! we're having a few issues with glossybox right now so i'm a little put off by all of the canadian beauty boxes. i'm tempted to just cancel them all but i'm locked in with glymm for 9 more months.
